Police suspect two burglars taped over a door latch to be able to enter a Seattle area school at a later time. However, the plan was foiled by Sonitrol Pacific security’s detection.
At about 2:30 a.m. on June 29, monitoring Operator Kris Etheridge received a silent alarm from the theater door at the school. Listening to live audio, she heard what could be someone moving around inside. Moments later, Etheridge heard footsteps followed by more alarms and called authorities.
Police arrived at the school and used a police dog to track down two suspected burglars. Both were taken into custody.
According to a representative from the school district, someone put tape over the latch to the theater door, allowing it to close without locking. The door could then be used to easily get inside. However, Sonitrol Pacific’s electronic security was still monitoring the school and the intruders were detected as soon as they entered the building.
