Two suspected burglars carrying backpacks filled with tools and school property were arrested after a Sonitrol Pacific operator detected a burglary in progress at a Puget Sound area school and sent police September 19.
Operator Michael Young received multiple sensor activations from the school. He listened to live security audio on scene to verify the threat, but only heard the HVAC unit. However, his years of monitoring Sonitrol Pacific security systems told him something was wrong. Young called the school’s security guard service and Tacoma Police.
Officers arrived at the school in less than five minutes of receiving Young’s call and caught two men. The suspects admitted getting inside by breaking a latch on a window. They were carrying backpacks filled with trophies and awards from the school, as well as tools used to break-in.
Special “thanks” to the Tacoma Police Department.
