Detection Yields One Arrest, Two Warnings

In another example of Sonitrol Pacific’s early and verified detection, police arrested a man suspected of attempting to break into the Point West Credit Union in Northeast Portland November 9 after insulation clinging to the man’s jacket undermined his claim he went behind the credit union’s bushes to urinate.
pwcu1      Police were alerted to suspicious activity at Point West Credit Union by Sonitrol Pacific Operator Kris Etheridge.  Etheridge received the activation of an audio sensor at the credit union and heard banging noises.  She called the guard service to check out the noise, but while on the phone with the guard dispatcher, Etheridge heard glass breaking, hung up and called Portland Police.
Police officers arrived in about two minutes and found a man hiding in the bushes in front of the building.  Upon questioning, the man claimedpwcu9 he went in the bushes to urinate.  Police officers observed pieces of insulation stuck in the Velcro of the man’s jacket.  Officers suspected the man picked up the insulation during his attempt to get inside the building and took him into custody.
According to police, the suspect first tried to get inside the credit union by breaking down a false entry door and found only insulation.  Still determined to get inside, he threw a large rock through a window, reached inside to attempt to open the window, but couldn’t because it was welded shut.  Police arrived before the suspect could move on to a Plan C for getting inside.
