Sensors ‘hear,’ suspects run, police catch
Police arrested two suspected burglars of a Seattle school administrative office May 23 after a Sonitrol Pacific operator heard voices over the school‘s audio security sensors.
Operator Joe Orsborn received a signal from the school about 2:37 a.m. and listened to real-time audio on site to determine the cause. He heard two men’s voices and called Seattle Police.
When officers arrived, the suspected burglars ran out of the building and tried to get away, but police caught them.
Police suspect these same two men were responsible for the break-in and theft of a flat screen TV on Mother’s Day.
“If you had waited for a call back from us, we would not have caught them,” said a representative from the school.
The school stressed the value of Sonitrol Pacific calling police on verified alarms rather than unverified alarms. Operator Orsborn determined a burglary was in progress and called police rather than calling the school staff and waiting to learn what they wanted to do. The time saved ensured the suspects were caught.
