Call From Sonitrol Pacific Leads to One Arrest at School
Police arrested one suspected burglar after the Sonitrol Pacific security system detected threatening activity inside an area elementary school March 8.
An experienced Sonitrol Pacific operator received an initial impact-activated signal from the school and listened to real-time audio to verify the nature of the alarm. She heard sound indicative of movement and called the school’s guard service. When the security guard arrived, he discovered a window broken by someone throwing a rock through it and called police.
Officers arrived quickly on scene and searched the school for the intruder. Police located and apprehended one individual.
Thanks to the sound analysis skills of the Sonitrol Pacific operator and the swift, effective response of the guard service and the police department, the suspect was taken into custody before major damage could be inflicted on the school.
More than 5,000 suspects have been arrested since 1978 thanks to detection of criminal activity by Sonitrol Pacific. In 2008 alone, 178 suspects were arrested and 20 percent of these were taken into custody before they got into the protected building.
