Three caught on school roof
Sheriff’s deputies arrested three people suspected of trying to break into a school June 9 after Sonitrol Pacific audio security sensors detected threatening activity on the school’s roof.
About 4:30 a.m., Sonitrol Pacific Operator Jessica Culver received the system activation from the Hillsboro, Ore. area school. Listening to audio security sensors, she heard voices, banging noises and the sound of feet running. This was followed by signals that someone was trying to open roof hatches. Culver immediately contacted the Hillsboro Police Department.
Deputies responded quickly and in force to the call from Sonitrol Pacific’s monitoring center. Hillsboro Police were assisted by Washington County Deputies. Multiple cars and a K-9 unit were on scene in less than four minutes.
Officers located three intoxicated college age people on the roof of the school. The three tried to avoid arrest by telling officers they climbed onto the roof to look for a lost Frisbee. When that didn’t work, they told deputies they couldn’t miss final exams in the morning at Portland Community College. Police were not convinced and all three were taken into custody.
The school district was thrilled with the detection by Sonitrol Pacific’s technology and the quick response from Culver, Hillsboro Police and the Washington County Deputies.
