One Arrested for Criminal Trespass

Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man suspected of criminal trespass at a school still under construction thanks to the skill of the sound analyst monitoring the school’s Sonitrol Pacific audio security system June 9.
Operator Minta Christopherson received the initial activation of the school’s security system about 3:30 a.m.  She listened to real-time audio and heard faint tapping sounds.  The noise was so faint, Christopherson thought it was possibly coming from outside the building.  She contacted the school district’s guard service to learn if the facility had been added to their normal rounds.  It had not.  Christopherson called sheriff’s deputies.
Officers responded to the scene and found a man who had opened a door and started to enter the building.  They took him into custody.  Sheriff’s deputies believe the man was a transient who recently moved into the area.  They have been chasing him for the past few weeks as he wanders from place to place looking for shelter.  Deputies arrested him for criminal trespass.
As the school is still under construction, the general contractor retains possession of the building and responded to meet police.  He was impressed with Sonitrol Pacific’s security system capabilities and could see the value provided for the school district.  This is the second apprehension at a school in this district in as many days.
