Audio security detection leads to arrest of five
Sonitrol Pacific audio sensors captured sounds of glass breaking and the detection resulted in the arrest of five suspected vandals before they could get inside an Oregon school August 20.
Around 2:30 a.m., Sonitrol Pacific Operator Kris Etheridge received the audio security activation from the school, heard glass breaking, banging and movement noises, and called sheriff’s deputies.
Officers arrived on campus within minutes and took four suspected vandals, ranging in age from 15 to 19, into custody. A few of the suspects had been drinking. Upon questioning, the four gave officers the name of a fifth accomplice who served as their driver and took off before police arrived.
The four are suspected of breaking a window and light fixture, and throwing the tools of a contractor working at the school into a nearby marsh. Due to the fast response by Etheridge and sheriff’s deputies, none of the suspects got inside the school and losses were kept to a minimum.
“Your system is worth every penny. Always has been, always will be,” said a representative from the school district.
